Drake Preps Single for Thank Me Later

According to Billboard, Thank Me Later Drakes first major release was recently pushed from a fall release to early 2010. One of the album’s producers, Harlem-based Omen, says the Toronto MC is ready to release the first single, “Shut It Down” featuring The-Dream, in the coming weeks with a video directed by Hype Williams.

The song came about when Omen teamed up with Drake’s longtime musical collaborator, 40, and together they came up with the production. “I was working on some drum patterns and 40 had the melody going. 40 is very skilled and has a crazy ear for obscure sounds and chords,” says Omen. “It took us the whole night to come up with the track, but we finished it and played it for Drake the next day, who already had the song’s concept.”

The idea for the track, which Omen describes as a “Prince-like, powerful song,” is about “empowering females. Drake said he had a song idea called ‘Shut It Down’ aimed at club-going females. When they go out and they get dressed up and put their makeup on and get their hair done, they have the capacity to shut the club down,” Omen recalls.

The-Dream eventually got on the track; as of now, he has a verse and appears on the last two choruses and on the bridge.

So far Drakes release of his mixtape So Far So Gone has sold over 100k copies since its 2 week reign on Billboard charts.

Fabolous tweets on his Twitter account @myfabolouslife about his upcoming reality show, the show is based on the crazy, spontaneous, busy, traveling life of an entertainer and complicated journey of a new father he twitted. I’m assuming the incident of him being poised is probably caught on film. No details on what television network the reality show will be aired on, but we’ll keep a close look as details develop.

Eminem and Apple Head To Court For iTunes Dispute

eminemapple

Eminem’s music publisher “Eight Mile Style” and Apple Inc. are headed to Detroit’s federal court over a contract dispute.

Eight Mile Style contends that Apple earned $2.58 million from iTunes downloads of various Eminem songs.  Eight Mile attorney Richard Busch said during his opening statement Eminem’s contract with record company Aftermath Records did not give the company right to make his songs available for download on Apple’s popular iTunes service.

Eight Mile Style is claiming copyright infringement, alleging Apple did not have a license to reproduce and sell 93 songs at issue.

Aftermath Records, founded by rapper and producer Dr. Dre, is also a defendant in the case. The lawsuit claims Aftermath and Apple ignored Eight Mile’s refusal to sell the songs in downloaded digital format

U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor is presiding over the trial without a jury, which was agreed to by both sides.

Apple attorney Glenn Pomerantz countered that Eight Mile Style made money off the download purchases. He said the Eight Mile made 9 cents off each song that customers pay to download an Eminem song from iTunes, which opened in 2003.
